A Realm Reborn
From the ashes of a fallen world, hope rises to forge a new destiny.
A Realm Reborn is the relaunched version of Final Fantasy XIV, released worldwide for PlayStation 3 and Windows in August 2013. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida, it replaced the failed 2010 version after the original game shut down in November 2012. Set in the fantasy region of Eorzea, the story begins five years after the devastating Seventh Umbral Calamity, in which the elder primal Bahamut escaped from an ancient space station called Dalamud and unleashed an apocalypse. Through temporal magic, the player character of the original version escaped and reappears at the start of A Realm Reborn. As Eorzea cements its recovery, the player must fend off a reignited invasion from the Garlean Empire.

Lore & Background
The Seventh Umbral Calamity was caused when Bahamut escaped his prison, the ancient space station Dalamud, unleashing an apocalypse across Eorzea. The original version of Final Fantasy XIV ended with this catastrophe. Through temporal magic, the player character from that original version escaped and reappeared at the start of A Realm Reborn. The game is set in Eorzea five years after this calamity, as the region works to recover. The Garlean Empire, having reignited its invasion, poses a major threat. The player must help fend off this invasion while Eorzea cements its recovery. The Scions of the Seventh Dawn are key figures in this struggle, working to unite the fractured city-states and protect the realm from both external and internal threats.
In Their Own Story
The wind howls through the hollowed ruins of Ishgard's outer walls, carrying the scent of ash and rain. A lone figure stands atop a ridge, looking down at the bustling, makeshift camp below where survivors share meager rations and warm stories by crackling fires. The sky above is no longer choked with smoke but pierced by the first rays of dawn, promising that even after the darkest night, the sun will rise again for those brave enough to face it.
