Elidibus
The last Ascian who sought to save the world by ending it.
Elidibus is a primordial Ascian and one of the first Scions of the Seventh Dawn, originally serving as the guardian of Hythlodaeus before becoming the final antagonist of the game's main narrative arc. As the last remaining member of his kind to oppose the Warrior of Light directly, he embodies the desperate will to preserve Etheirys by any means necessary, even if it requires destroying the world to reset it.

Lore & Background
Born as one of the original Ascians, Elidibus was among those tasked with guiding the people of Etheirys during the Age of Darkness. Unlike his kin who embraced the fall of their civilization to hasten its rebirth, he initially believed in protecting the realm from the outside. This divergence led him to join the Scions of the Seventh Dawn under a false identity, seeking to understand why the Warrior of Light refused to succumb to the will of the Convocation of Fourteen. His true nature was revealed after the defeat of Zodiark and Bahamut, where he admitted his allegiance to the Ascian cause. However, his motivation shifted from simple obedience to a twisted form of compassion; believing that the current world was too flawed to survive another Calamity, he sought to use the power of Hythlodaeus to shatter the barrier between worlds and force a new creation cycle.
In Their Own Story
The air within the crystalline expanse of Hythlodaeus hummed with a silence that felt heavier than stone. Elidibus stood before the Warrior, his white robes stark against the swirling void of the First's memories. He did not raise his weapon in anger, but rather with the solemnity of a judge delivering a final verdict. "You fight to save a world that is already dying," he whispered, his voice echoing not just in the room, but within the very soul of the one who stood before him. "Let me grant you the mercy of an end, so that something new may begin." The light around them fractured as the final battle commenced.
Reader's Guide
Elidibus originates as a mysterious ally to the Scions, presenting himself as a gentle scholar with deep knowledge of ancient history and the Echo. His role in the narrative is initially supportive, guiding the Warrior of Light through critical moments while hiding his true intent to manipulate events from within. His key relationship is defined by a complex rivalry with the Warrior of Light; he respects their strength but fundamentally disagrees with their philosophy of preserving life at all costs. As the story unfolds across expansions, he evolves from a deceptive manipulator into an open adversary who believes he is the only one capable of saving Etheirys. By the final confrontation in Endwalker, Elidibus sheds his disguise completely. He transforms from a hidden hand pulling strings to a tragic figure willing to sacrifice himself and the world to achieve what he perceives as salvation, ultimately falling when his ideals are challenged by the hope of the people.
